These paintings are based on a short length of 8mm film from the home movies of a friend, from 1966. When I saw it, I loved the deep shadows, sunlit squares of grass, and the outfits and attitudes of the family members and friends. It made me think of growing up, and of all the adult conversations we overhear when we're 12 or 14.
